What are terpenes?
Terpenes are any of a large group of unsaturated hydrocarbons found in the essential oils of plants, especially conifers and citrus trees. Cannabis can contain over 100 different identified terpenes, which give the various strains of cannabis their characteristic scents and effects. Click here for more information about terpenes.
How can I use terpenes?
Terpenes can be used with cannabis in a variety of ways. Our product can be added to concentrates to replace the terpenes lost during the extraction process. They can also be used in edibles, topicals, infusions, and even added to flower to enhance and improve flavor and effects. In addition to being used with cannabis, terpenes can be added to many products such as candles, soaps, lotions, bath bombs, and other spa products for a distinct aromatic experience. What is the "Entourage Effect?”
The "Entourage Effect” refers to the way in which terpenes work synergistically with THC and CBD to boost and enhance their effects. Click here for more information about the Entourage Effect, and watch this video for a comprehensive presentation on cannabis terpenes.
Are terpenes safe?
Our products are made from food grade ingredients that are generally recognized as safe for human consumption. The same terpenes found in cannabis can be found in a wide range of foods, plants, herbs, cosmetics, and household products. Terpenes are highly concentrated and should never be used undiluted. Can I purchase your product if I live in Massachusetts?
As of September 24, 2019, Massachusetts has placed a temporary 4-month ban on the sale of all vapes and vape-related products, due to the ongoing health concerns around the use of these products. We have temporarily suspended all sales within Massachusetts in compliance with this ban. The health concerns around vaping and the contamination of vape products are very serious, and while we feel confident in the safety and purity of our products, we will be pursuing further testing beyond the already extensive testing they undergo. We will be monitoring this situation as it develops, and we encourage all of our customers to stay informed about the risks associated with vaping and to research all products they purchase. For more information about the ban, please click here.
Are terpenes legal in my state?
Yes, terpenes are legal to purchase and use in all states, except for Massachusetts (due to a 4-month ban on the sale of vaping products, as of 9/24/19). Wisp Terpene profiles are derived from non-cannabis sources and contain absolutely no THC, CBD, or other cannabinoids.
Are your terpene blends diluted, or do they contain any vitamin E acetate?
No, all of our products are 100% pure terpene blends that are not diluted or cut in any way. We never use vitamin E acetate in any of our products. If it's not a terpene that you can find in cannabis, then you will not find it in any of our products.
I am allergic to PG/PEG/VG/MCT. Do your products contain any of these substances?
Our products are 100% free from propylene glycol (PG), polyethylene glycol (PEG), vegetable glycerin (VG), and medium chain triglycerides (MCT). We only use natural food grade terpenes, and our products do not contain any other unnatural flavorings, fillers, or dilutants.
How much do I need?
The amount that you will need will depend on how you are using our products. Our 2 mL bottle is typically enough for several applications for personal use. Please contact us if you are interested in wholesale pricing for larger volumes.
Does it matter where terpenes come from?
The source of ingredients is an important component of creating terpene blends. At Wisp Terpenes, we only use ingredients of the highest quality and purity so that we can faithfully recreate each strain specific profile. All of our terpenes are lab tested for the presence of pesticides and heavy metals, such as lead, mercury, cadmium, and arsenic.
What is the difference between terpenes and essential oils?
Essential oils are comprised of a combination of different terpenes along with other compounds. Terpenes consist of only a single pure compound. Terpenes are highly concentrated chemicals isolated from botanical sources and should always be diluted when used.
Show me the science!
Modern science has revealed a lot about the terpenes found in cannabis and the role they play in the pharmacological qualities of the plant. Click here to read a scientific paper by Dr. Ethan B. Russo, entitled “Taming THC: potential cannabis synergy and phytocannabinoid-terpenoid entourage effects.”
